ACADEMICS & FACILITIES

FACULTY

The University has acquired the services of a highly competent faculty largely with foreign qualification from the renowned universities of the world. Even the visiting faculty members are selected on merit keeping in view of the quality aspects of the University degree programs. Access to the HEC Digital Library enables the faculty to remain abreast with the latest developments in their fields of interest. Faculty members are encouraged to attend national and international professional and academic meetings. Faculty members are also encouraged to undertake research and consultancy. Fortunately, the University is situated in a major city of Pakistan. This is beneficial for the faculty as well as the students to establish inter-university and university-industry relationships. Many of our faculty members are on the HEC ’s National Curriculum Review Committees.

LIBRARY

Managed by qualified librarian & friendly staff, the University library is an excellent educational resource for enhancement of knowledge. It provides a wide range of materials to help the students in their academic pursuits. The library is stocked with 30000 titles. Subscription to a large number of Journals, Periodicals and Magazines provides the students an opportunity to remain current about the latest trends in education and research. Access to the HEC Digital Library is a vast recourse of advance knowledge covering over 23,000 international Journals/Periodicals and 40000 e-books.

CONFERENCES, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

At Sarhad University, Peshawar, lectures by eminent scholars/professionals are a matter of routine. Experts/executives from different fields are invited to the Campus to share their experiences with students. The faculty and senior students of the University are also required to give presentations of academic and /or general nature. University recently held an International Conference on Policy Dynamics and Workshop on Entrepreneurship.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

SUIT fully realizes the significance of competence and dedication of faculty in the success of a university. For this reason, faculty members are encouraged to participate in academic activities (conferences, workshops, long/short courses, research Projects, etc), Funds are allocated to support the faculty participation in such activities nationally as well as internationally. The focus on faculty development has several positive results, notably in teaching, research, designing of modern curricula, and development of international contacts.

CLASSROOMS

The spacious, air-conditioned, well lit, class rooms are the hallmark of the University. These are equipped with modern teaching aids, furniture and fixture. Classroom interactions are used for providing comprehensive education and training. This enables the students to enhance their professional skills and foster global and strategic thinking. The classroom instructions at Sarhad University are reinforced through extensive relevant case studies and group discussions/projects.

LABORATORIES

The University has several laboratories in Engineering, Pharmacy and Computer Science Departments. All laboratories are provided with latest equipment and educational aids to foster knowledge in a systematic way. Experiments & case studies are designed by the faculty members in consultation with experts from industry, business and prospective employers. Interaction with industry, business and government organizations is a constant endeavor of the University

Once such an effort matures, students will be able to spend some time and learn at the premises, of the partner university.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The quality of the University environment is an essential ingredient in the academic success of a student’s life. The University encourages students to take part in co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Our Student Support Department concentrates on recreation and exploring talent of the students by providing means of sports, cultural and stage performances during each semester. Creative writing and debating is a part of intellectual activities at the University. Students enjoy leisure trips to tourist spots and hill-stations of the country. To discover and foster sports talent, the University encourages participation in football, athletics, cricket, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, chess, basketball, etc. Lately the University participated in all universities Declamation Contest and Sports Gala arranged by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

TRANSPORT

The University provides local transport facility to its students. Further details about this facility and the plying routes of transport can be obtained from the concerned office.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Faculty members are involved full-time in tackling real-world problems. Students are encouraged earlier on to benefit from such research activities through participation, and publication of their work. The University intends to soon establish an R&D facility. It shall house latest journals, software and high-end computers. Involvement in industry/ commerce-related research and development activities enhances their chances to get sponsorship from the relevant industry. The R&D Cell at Sarhad University would, therefore, act as a repository of unsolved research problems.High bandwidth, Internet facility, high-end computer lab coupled with diversified R&D interests of the faculty make it a very conducive environment for original work.

ACADEMIC COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE

At the time of induction, the students are guided by the Admissions Office. Later, the Admissions Committee, comprising selected faculty members from the concerned faculties provide the much needed guidance to the freshmen. At the end of each semester, students who do not show up-to-the-mark progress are provided the opportunity to decide their future course of action in a Faculty Board meeting presided over by the concerned Dean/ HOD. Achievable yet challenging targets are set for the students with their consent and their progress is regularly monitored. Failure of the students in meeting such targets renders them ineligible for continuation of their studies at SUIT.

CAREER COUNSELING AND PLACEMENT

The An office has been set up to arrange internships for students and placement of the University graduates in the public and private sectors. It holds regular meetings with the students and graduates and guide them about their choice and preferences for job. Various Chambers of Commerce and Industries have also been approached and their assistance sought in this regard. Today, the graduates of Sarhad University are serving in various national/multinational companies, banks, software houses and other organizations of repute. We optimistically anticipate increased demand for Sarhad University graduates amongst prospective employers, including multi-nationals and other prestigious organizations of all sizes. SUIT is expanding its links with the industries and the commercial sector by nominating and recommending its graduates to local industry, multi-national companies, financial institutions, and public sector organizations. On campus interviews by the interested industries/ organizations are being contemplated.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available to highly talented students with brilliant academic record, and those who show high academic performance during successive semesters. Further details about the facility can be obtained from the Information Office.
