I am pleased to know that Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology, Peshawar, is contributing positively in the area of higher education, particularly in the fields of Pharmacy, Engineering and Management Sciences, etc, for the last six years.

The Federal Government and the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad attach high priority to higher education and research at the Universities, which play vital role in the socio-economic development, progress and prosperity of a country. The parents and their wards certainly expect good education standards at our seats of higher learning. We must therefore, focus on disseminating quality education so that we can compete at international levels and earn our rightful place in the comity of nations.

The Government of Pakistan and Higher Education Commission, Islamabad have been endeavoring sincerely to encourage institutions of higher learning in the country to ensure dissemination of quality education and attaining excellence in teaching and research. As a matter of fact, the present government has attached top-most priority to this sector of national development, since the progress and development of Pakistan is linked to concerted sincere efforts on the part of institutions of higher learning in the country.

Universities in this day and age are not judged just by their ability to transfer knowledge but by their ability to create new knowledge. This is measured by (a) high quality Ph.D. output, (b) patents that are commercialized based on the work carried out in the universities, (c) honours and awards won by the faculty at international level (d) citations of the work of the faculty in the Science Citation Index, (e) impact factors of the journals in which the work of the faculty members is published, (f) international grants won by the faculty. These and other such measures which reflect the creativity of the faculty and students of the university determine the academic stature of the university. The management of Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology, Peshawar will need to use these yardsticks for its own performance assessment so that it can emerge as a genuine quality university.

It is encouraging to know that Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology is making every effort for attaining the academic as well as infra structural bench-marks laid down by the Federal Cabinet and the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad in due time. I hope that the University will uphold the trust reposed in it by the Government as well as the students and their parents.

Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology, Peshawar (SUIT), was established to accomplish a mission of bridging the gap between the knowledge learned through academic education, and the dynamic skills required in industry, business, government organizations, and other areas of society. It is my honor to announce that SUIT is successfully proceeding towards the achievement of its mission. It is striving to provide a strong and purposeful education in order to prepare students to confront the competitive world. SUIT is not just addressing the issues of professional environment such as air-conditioned building, classrooms, and well-equipped labs but, more importantly, it is concentrating on the most critical issues such as those of faculty development, curricula tailored to latest technology and present-day demands, effective teaching, and learning tools.

Choosing an institution of higher education is one of the most crucial decisions one makes in life. Similarly, pursuing a particular degree program that is best for one's future is certainly a vital decision. Sarhad University has completed five years of its existence.  As the third Vice Chancellor of Sarhad University, I feel privileged in having being associated with this institution of higher learning ever since its inception.  While the University continually strived to progress in various aspects, including physical infrastructure, world-class curricula, and enabling environment, our first priority has always remained quality education through highly qualified and experienced faculty. I attribute our success in all these areas to the faculty and management whose devotion, hard work, sincerity, and determination has earned us high reputation and due recognition.  Today, we have a brilliant team of professionals, whose talent, commitment, and unmatched academic excellence places Sarhad University at a higher pedestal.

Selecting a particular degree program for entering professional life is one of the most crucial decisions.  Equally difficult is the choice of an institution of higher learning to pursue the selected degree program.  For those who have reached this decision-making stage, Sarhad University offers diverse fields at its Campuses in Peshawar as well as through Distance Education.  May Allah Almighty bless our youth and guide them in making the right decision, and enable the University management to give its best to its students.

It is indeed a matter of pride for me to be the founder Vice Chancellor of the Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology (SUIT). It has been my desire to be associated with an institution committed to imparting high quality education to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing socio-economic conditions of the society. The inception of this University has provided me an opportunity to fulfill this dream. We are hopeful that our efforts will bear fruit and SUIT, which was inaugurated on 1st September 2001, will symbolize excellence in education, especially Science and Information Technology. From the very beginning, we have started taking appropriate steps in fulfilling this hope. We looked for specialists who have reputation of dignity, honour and commitment, besides expertise in their relevant fields. The curricula have been designed by these selected specialists with utmost care. The site and building have been chosen to provide conducive environment for learning. A guidance cell has been established to help students in their studies, career planning, and placement after graduation. SUIT has a well-stocked library and its computer labs (Digital, Project, etc) have been designed and equipped (multimedia projection system, internet facility, etc.) to provide hands-on training on a variety of systems. While this catalogue provides enough information, we would still like to invite you to see for yourselves what SUIT offers.

Indeed, almost all the private sector universities of the province are actively engaged to share the burden of the public sector by catering to a greater proportion of science education that is of great significance in the prevailing circumstances. The Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology is no doubt playing its role, much in relation to the above said goals and expectations of our society. However, the increasingly competitive higher education market demands constant efforts and bold initiatives to get respectable place amongst the comity of nations. I sincerely hope that the Sarhad University will keep up its pace of growth and progress directed towards providing quality education to come up to the expectations of all and wish their Management, Faculty, and Students all the success in their endeavors.
